Telmo Miguel-Medina

Associate Professor of Electronics in the Department of Electromechanical Engineering at the University of Burgos, Spain.

My work connects electronics and biomedical engineering with clinical machine learning, interpretable AI, RF measurement, and reproducible research software. I develop open tools and learning resources for practical engineering and health applications.

Research

  • Clinical prediction and interpretable machine learning, including 30-day outcomes after cardiac surgery and SHAP/LIME methods.
  • RF measurement and electronic systems, including NanoVNA calibration and ADS-B Out.
  • Open research software and reproducible workflows for engineering and biomedical applications.

Selected Work

  • Journal article: “Development of a Machine Learning-Based Predictive Model and Clinically Oriented Web Application for 30-Day Mortality Following Cardiac Surgery,” Sensors (2026).
  • Book: Electrónica en Ingeniería Biomédica — Volumen I (Biomedical Electronics — Volume I), 2026.
  • Patents: Lifting Apparatus and Lifting System, with US, European, and international records.

Teaching

  • Electronics, BSc in Health Engineering (2023–2026).
  • Fundamentals of Electronic Engineering, BSc in Industrial Electronics and Automation Engineering (2021–2022).
  • IPR workshop on patent protection for software and artificial intelligence inventions (2026).
  • Supervision of three final-year projects (2025), including a sleep-disorder prediction application using the O2Ring device.
